The first two colors were really hard to differentiate in the puzzle but in the end result the shading turned out nicely. Cute little subject...and tasty, too!
replyTricky with similar colours, but the result is worth it!
replyLooks good, but man this puzzle seems like it was meant explicitly for the custom palate. I only switched to the original colors when I just had two colors left for the bottom section.

Hi there, what do you mean by the 'custom palette'? You can switch between that and the original colors..?

If you click the settings gear above the puzzle the very last option is "Use your palette while solving color crosswords" and it changes the colors from the natural ones to very distinct black, green, red, magenta, and so on. It's really useful for puzzles like this one which have five shades of the same color that are often hard to distinguish. Earlier I did a nonogram of a panda that used black and charcoal interchangeably, and it would've taken twice as long without the custom palette.

I may just be tired... but where is the "settings gear" for this? I have all of the options listed for puzzle preferences (e.g. "A second left click puts a cross") but don't see any settings options above the puzzle that allow me to change the colour palette. Thank you!

It doesn't show up in incognito mode, so I think it only appears if you go to your user settings and turn on "yes" for "Beta testing of the new page of solving the crossword." It enables a number of features that don't appear in the checklist that is there for generic users.

Thanks so much for sharing this tip! It was a pretty puzzle, but it hurt my eyes. I'll be using the custom palette in the future :)
replyThank you Iantgreat for sharing this hint. This will definitely come in handy.

I use it all the time. I'm glad to share it. I just redid this puzzle and tried really hard to do it with the base colors, and I outright couldn't. I think it's fun to try to figure out what you just drew when all the colors are wrong, sometimes it's easy, usually it's not.
replypeople above said it all about the difficulties--all true, but a beautiful picture!
replyOk, the oranges were indistinguishable. But I followed someone's advice and figured out how to make my own palette.
replyas said, the colours are very tricky but it's still doable and make very fun to try guess what it is. cool subject!
replynonograms.org users will see the word shrimp and black out amd complete the puzzle without checking the difficulty
