I think this is the kind that punched holes in my trim boards. They're usually after insects, but the pest inspector said we don't have any.
I guess the little scoundrel was just curious? We had to replace several boards.
We have ones with more red on their heads here, too.

Pileated woodpecker - seen them in the woods sometimes.
