Love that you showed the hands. It is our responsibility to save it.

True, it is, and it is not a responsibility we take seriously. There is only one way to save the planet, and it doesn't involve investing in green energy or caring or recycling or any of that. It is simple: resource tax. It costs the earth to have its resources plundered, but we don't charge for that. Make the tax non-regressive, i.e. refund it in its entirety to the people equally. This tax will use market forces to clean up the planet pronto. Nothing else will or could. You heard it here first.

mindscrub, you said it, but I would add the caveat that all those small actions help as well, if only to help all us short-memoried people keep our eyes on the prize--a liveable Earth.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. My favorite motto is, if you aren't helping, you're hurting. All those small actions do is take your eyes off the prize by lulling you into thinking you are doing something that is helping. But you are not. It is as if you needed to empty the ocean and took a teaspoon with you every time you visited and took a few teaspoons of water out. Yes, you are making a difference, but you are putting off the moment when we start to really help, and every moment you do that, whole species die. We need to reincentivize the whole system, not depend on the tiny little favors we each do. Sure, I drive a hybrid car... that saves 1% as much as a resource-conscious car would. It's lip service. We have the economic engine to fix it, we just need the tax.

Aww, I was set to make an "I can see my house from here!" joke, but then I saw the whole picture and got mushy. I just worked at our local festival, and it was so great to see everyone in it together. But I do agree with you...it is bigger than we as individuals can manage.
replyWe are in God's hands and there's the best place for us.
