I'm not sure. Aliens abducting cows seems to be a thing. It's probably from something, but I don't know what.

Back in the 1960's, there was a series of cow mutilations (insides removed and taken from the scene). The perpetrators were never discovered. But a common urban legend was that aliens were researching life on this planet and cows were a plentiful and easy target for collecting specimens.
