Hahaha! That’s truly a different subject than what I mostly see here. ^o^
replyFirst I thought it was a strange mushroom - which, in a way, it is.
replySad subject, but this is art. The colors are dramatic!

My childhood was filled with nightmares.
The black cloud.
The killing cloud.
The end of the world.
I never knew it might be golden.
From the moment we are born, we begin to die.
Old age.
Dependence.
Shame.
I never knew it might be golden.

I would really have appreciated a trigger warning.
replyI don't think there is, or should be, a policy where people have to warn users in most cases. If you get triggered by an 8-bit picture of an explosion, I don't know that it's the world's responsibility to be "safe" for you.

Wow, a simple set of colors but such a complex image. I was definitely surprised as I was expecting some sort of fruit. The use of colors to shade here is impressive. Although a depiction of a nuclear explosion brings to mind absolutely horrific historical occurrences, I think it can also be appreciated as a scientific phenomena. This isn't representing a specific explosion, after all; it's just an image of the resulting cloud. And I think it is well done.

I still think this looks like a tree but ok. Still a great picture. I didn't need to use the check which is a first.
I like the atypical subject matter - it's more fun if the imagery stays a mystery longer in, and isn't an animal or flower.
replyFor those of a certain age, this was a nightmare we lived with every day. It still might happen, but it's not the first thing we think in the morning. Who knew armageddon, instead of being quick and painful, would be slow, miserable and painful; just wasting away slowly. The 7th extinction.
replyshaded very well! as soon as i finished i knew what it was!
replyCataclysmic thumbnail! Provoked a lot of interesting comments!

Of course I thought this was fire and almost didn't bother to do it because of that. What a surprise! I hate the subject matter, but have to admit the image is perfect.
