This puzzle is based on the Russian children's story "Three Cheerful Paints" by Yury Smolnikov. I am going to ask whether someone on the Russian site might summarize the plot for us. It sounds delightful! Thank you for another delightful puzzle, Vigil!

Thank you, Anonymous, for this link. If you go to this link and scroll down a bit you will see the beautiful illustrations from this book by Yury Smolnikov. Very, very nice!
From the Russian-language site, Anna kindly sent this synopsis (edited for clarification):
This story teaches about the three primary colors, Blue, Yellow and Red. One day the primary colors go to a neighboring realm to paint a city for a celebration. Gray and black are left behind. Unhappy at being left behind, they paint everything gray and black. When Blue, Yellow and Red come home there is a colorful battle ending in a more beautifully painted palace.
Vigil’s image is of the re-painted palace at the end of the book.
