They're not glass in the tale, they're made of a very expensive squirrel fur that's called "vair" in French, which is phonetically undistinguishable from "verre" which means glass, hence the confusion.

Cinderella is well known for her glass slippers, but were they always glass? A popular tale is that her slippers were originally made of fur, and the notion that her slippers were glass came from a mistranslation of an early French manuscript.
Not so fast. The supposed mistranslation stems from a version written by Charles Perrault in 1697. The story as written includes the phrase “pantoufle de verre,” which means glass slipper. However, many assume he meant “pantoufle de vair,” meaning fur slipper. But did he? This supposed fact has been examined at length, with some concluding that it was indeed a mistranslation, and others deciding that he really meant “glass slipper” after all.
Too confusing? You can always opt for the Grimm Brothers version of the tale, which had Cinderella wearing gold slippers!
The actual tale goes back much farther than 17th century France.

Yah, I mean we are all pretty familiar with the theory about the French version with the misspelt name but some scholars argue that it originated during the Tang Dynasty in China whilst others argue that it orginated in ancient Greece and there are suggestions it came from ancient Egypt(in this version it is said the shoe was orginally glass). However folk tales emerged from oral tradition so it will always be difficult to determine an exact point of origin and we don't know if/how each retelling varied from the last.

If that's the slipper on the top step, she must have enormous feet !!! Very nice - thank you :))

The funniest part of this isn't that the slippers look like Luka's boots (is he her fairy godfather?), but that the one on the step actually, in its rudimentary, pixelated way, looks like it could be clear glass!

Yes, she borrowed Luka's boots for this scene, and made it out by midnight!
