This definitely had the feel of a puzzle that was uniquely mindscrub. This had a lot of logic similar to your first few months of puzzles, and quite a unique idea as well. This is the mindscrub I have missed lately!

In the UK we have what are called fish and chip shops. They sell fried, battered fish fillets (usually haddock and cod but never pufferfish), chips and mushy peas. When I was a lad they were always fried in beef dripping & then wrapped up in sheets of old newspapers to be taken home or eaten on the way home. The shops are called things like Heptonstall Fish Shop, Eric's fish & chips, even Mr Cod & Mrs Haddock!
Not 100 yards from my house was a fish and chip shop run by a couple of Chinese descent who called their shop "Puffies" and had a picture of a pufferfish on the shop frontage. To this day I know not why!

I have a good fish & chips shop nearby, but the best I've had was in the UK. Mushy peas are an abomination, but they grow on you.
