Oh my - this nomenclature issue!
TNG this is a syrup sponge!!!
Made with golden (not maple) syrup placed in the bottom of a pudding basin that is then filled with a sponge mix & covered with greaseproof paper, secured with string.
The basin is then steamed for 24 days on a simmer - the pudding is then turned out & served with custard and / or cream!
A school dinner favourite in England.

That looks yummy. I am hoping you don't have a butter sponge recipe as that is what I call anything served warm topped with butter. (biscuits, potatoes, yams etc.)
I had some this morning. :D I like how the puzzle just fell together at the end!
