This reminds me of how people used to communicate by writing letters all the time. I wrote hundreds of letters myself. Now I have a very hard time making myself write even a short note rather than send an email or other electronic communication. It does tend to hurt my hand (and did even in my young adulthood) and tends to be illegible, but I think I'm bothered more by not being able to easily edit it. Of course, one can write a second draft. When I do send a handwritten note, I often draft it first in a word-processing program.
