This is a great example of why I rarely do the larger puzzles. Larger of course being relative as this is classified as a 'medium,' but still 30% larger than the 25x25 that is usually considered the biggest 'small' puzzle. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this puzzle. As usual, mindscrub delivers a compelling solve that jumps all over the board, forcing users to hunt for the next foothold. The image is fine, although nothing special.
My issue is with the difficulty. I love a challenging puzzle. I love scouring a grid looking for the ONE square, either pixel or X, that can be filled in. I relish the tricks a skilled constructor can use to exact that "Aha!" moment. But what can be a satisfying hunt in a smaller grid often becomes a slog in higher resolutions. Recognizing and using an advanced technique can be a point of pride for new solvers. Larger puzzles don't make using these little tricks harder, they just make finding them a chore. Your mileage may vary.

I found the difficulty refreshing. The puzzle was larger than some, but not so large that scrolling was required, so no complaints.

Thanks; this is a bit bigger than I usually make the "small" puzzles, but I needed the space for the detail, which despite the common subject I felt had not been done justice yet. I found it very hard to get started, but it was different from other puzzles because of the divide and conquer effect that the long pieces gradually opened up.

You did manage to make this the best of this subject.
replyVery challenging but rewarding. Great entertainment once you had the right mindset.
replyThis does require one of the more advanced techniques of solving. After a frustrating half-hour, I gave in and got a hint. And when I got it, it was an 'oh of course' moment. I very much enjoyed it. And was very glad it was not symmetrical as much of this subject matter is.
