After one wing, I knew what it was - but that didn't help finish the puzzle. Good work

I still didn't know after two wings but Google helped a lot.
replyMy husband walked up and told me exactly what this was. Oh, I hate that.

I said out loud, "I don't see how it is a key but I don't see how it could be anything else." He walked up told me what it was. I wasn't familiar with the object. He showed me a picture just as I was filling in the last part and I wasn't happy when it looked just like the thing.

Sometimes I just put on a butterfly, because I hate fighting with the damn tie-knot.

Hope you've had lunch because this one is going to eat yours.
replyI thought it was a key initially, then a very ugly bow tie. After the last square I registered what it was just before the title popped up.
replyI think this is the best nonogram I've ever done.
The process you have to go through to complete this puzzle is just fantastic! You have to think about where each and every segment can fit in its given row or column once you have placed some X's down. It was really fascinating to see all of that come together. I never really felt flustered doing this nonogram (except at the end), but it took me nearly an hour to do.
Exceptional work, mindscrub!

Thanks! I can't take all the credit -- the twin-ion engines (hence TIE) provided a kind of perfect storm for difficulty in such a small space -- they are offset by one pixel from each other and are basically pinwheels, which create short lines that are hard to solve. Then I added/removed pixels to reach the point of barely being solvable, which I like to do when it doesn't compromise the design. FWIW, it frustrated me solving it, too, esp. at the end -- took me 59 minutes.

Thought it was a bow tie as well. Wait, is that why they're called tie fighters?
