The common cliche about a small puzzle is to say that it "does a lot with little space." This entry earns that praise so thoroughly that the phrase ought never again be applied to anything falling short of the standard set here. The elephant is adorable thanks to its "baby" head-to-body ratio, something very difficult to achieve at this resolution without sacrificing fidelity. The ear and legs gives the piece a subtle but undeniable three-dimensionality, turning the elephant's sideways profile ever so slightly toward the viewer. This masterful effect in turn puts us into relation with the elephant: this is not a schematic, like so many other puzzles, but an encounter.
