At that distance, they're in conjunction all the time. And even on Earth, it's only once in a lifetime if you die young.

Guess I should have been more specific by saying last seen from the US and Europe in the night sky in 1226.

Where do you get that from? NASA ( https://www.nasa.gov/feature/the-great-conjunction-of-jupiter-and-saturn ) says "The planets regularly appear to pass each other in the solar system, with the positions of Jupiter and Saturn being aligned in the sky about once every 20 years."

Guess I should have been even more specific:

“Alignments between these two planets are rather rare, occurring once every 20 years or so, but this conjunction is exceptionally rare because of how close the planets will appear to one another,” Hartigan said.

“You’d have to go all the way back to just before dawn on March 4, 1226, to see a closer alignment between these objects visible in the night sky.”
