Japanese crossword «Bug»

I'm thinking more along the lines of an eyed click beetle. As you can see the "eyes" appear to be on top of the head which suggests it has fake eyes as markings on its head. Also, you appear to be correct that it is a beetle due to its body shape and what appears to be the separation of the elytra, although that could also be markings. At first thought, the things protruding from its head seemed to me to be antennae. I could be putting too much thought into this and it could indeed be a stag beetle. We would need the creator to confirm.
