The bend in the leg is back to front! Birds legs bend forward, not back. Still a good picture though.

They bend the same as ours. They have very long feet, and the bend that you refer to is the heel. They do have knees, but they're not so visible.

Regardless of the correct anatomy of a flamingo's legs (and you are correct on that Onono), the bend in the leg at the ankle would still be drawn as opposite of what is shown in the picture. Jennifer never mentioned the knees (which are tucked up under the body) so her remark of the bend in the legs is correct.
