It's not as if wrist watches have completely disappeared from usage. And even in the era of the smart watch, plenty of people still wear normal wrist watches. The kind of people who always liked wearing them, mostly.

Where as the people like myself, who (thanks to a strong measure of claustrophobia) can't stand having a a snug band on their wrist, were very happy to abandon wrist watches to the mini-processors in our pockets.
