Could it be a reference to Winnie the Pooh, possibly the story where he gets stuck after eating all rabbit's honey?
I believe this is from the Winnie the Pooh story where Pooh brings a jar of honey for Eeyore's birthday, but accidentally eats it all, and Piglet brings Eeyore a balloon, but accidentally breaks it. Eeyore isn't too happy with his presents at first (naturally), but then he learns he can put the burst balloon into the empty honey jar and take it out again and he's happy doing that.
