It's lovely. Also, if I'm not mistaken, there is some playing with figure and ground--it is that to which the title refers. It's an amazing accomplishment in such a small space! In both views, it seems that figure and ground are divided by the area of white shaped like this: "<." If you look at the thumbnail from left to right, you see the spruce tree sheltering a hedgehog. If you look from right to left, you see a hedgehog nestled in the needles of the tree.
Clever - and much easier to see in the thumbnail.
replyOK, having read the explanation in the comments I can make it out in the thumbnail. And IMHO a picture that can't be seen without that is not a 4-star puzzle.

It's actually a really great picture. Hedgehog is smooth, and the tree is bumpy.
