I had keep going just to see what it was... once I saw that face!

And if the only response you have to these links is to whine about how "politically correct" it is, to expect fat people to be treated like people, and not objects to make fun of, well congratulations for being just another of the bigots on that hate mail page.
I have a lot of respect for this puzzle-maker, and I doubt very much that it ever occurred to her that this depiction is offensive. But it is, regardless of whether or not it's based on some specific character, story, etc. Jokes are only funny when you punch up - and there are next-to-zero societies in our world today, where making a punch line out of person's size is punching up.

Much appreciated. My fat friends suffer a great deal of discrimination and hate. Jokes about slimming just rub salt in the wounds. "Just a joke" doesn't excuse hurting people.
replyThere are more than one way to find this puzzle amusing. One is to think that fat people are funny looking, which is indeed abhorrent. Another is to find it funny the way we try to trick ourselves. This said, it is also wring to jump to conclusions about people’s nature because of what they are laughing it. If i laugh in front of something that makes you cry, maybe i am remembering something amusing from my past, that happens to be related to the subject at hand. Let us all give others the benefit of doubt, because we might also be wrongly understood one day.

And if the only response you have is "I have a lot of respect for this puzzle-maker...[but] this depiction is offensive" then you are probably a hypocrite, and/or fat.
Punch out.
Peace

Not sure why all the hullabaloo. The artist didn't us the word FAT. Vertical lines do make you look thinner. If you are fat, you know you are fat and why a picture of some other fat person upsets you delicate sensibilities is beyond my comprehension...btw, I currently fit into the FAT category.

Ah, the internet... Not only am I most definitely in the FAT category, but I'm also actively involved in obesity advocacy and, in particular, the fight against weight stigma. It's worth noting that somebody who grew up wanting to express her fashion sense with bold colours and patterns and got "vertical lines make you slimmer" thrown in her face at every step could be triggered by this. However, I see this as laughing not at the fat person, but at stupid fashion rules, and I found this puzzle whimsical and fun.

You are back!
I grew up in the tall, skinny category OMG try to figure out fashion when everything is too big and too short.
