You can't actually tell one way or the other in the picture since, if it were, the ear would be on the side of the head, hidden among the black.

Incorrect. The ears aren't needed to recognize it as a sea lion. The flippers alone are enough. Seal flippers don't bend the way sea lion flippers do. And to top it off, it's balancing a ball on its nose, which performing sea lions do, not seals. So, one more time: Yes, it is a pinniped, and yes, it's a type of sea lion. It's not a seal.

I was unaware that there was such a difference between the hind flippers of the two. I stand corrected; this truly is a sea lion, not a seal.
