As I recall, xray specs had many more concentric circles on the 'lenses', almost looking like a bullseye. I think this is an image of those arguably racist novelty glasses people wear to make their eyes look 'Asian'.

I'm not familiar with the racist Asian glasses, but these do remind me of the joke glasses people in comedies wear to make it look like they're awake while sleeping in glass.

Makes me think of The Great Gatsby
