In modern parlance this would often be called a Mech. Think the thing Ripley used to move freight and fight the queen in Aliens or the machines the Ninjago ninjas use to battle with.

You could also technically call Iron Man's suit a Mech, but we tend to use the term Mech specifically to refer to a robot that is considerably larger in size than the human pilot inside of it.
