A fun nonogram and an insight into a bit of Russian culture. This is a picture of [spoiler alert!] a character from a 1966 story by Soviet writer Eduard Uspensky. Cheburashka, an animal with large monkey-like ears and a cub-like body, lives in a tropical forest. He gets into a crate of oranges, eats his fill, and falls asleep. The crate is delivered to a grocery store in Russia. The store manager sets the creature on the table. He tumbles off (cheburakhnulsya="tumble"). The store manager names him "Cheburashka".

Thank you for this backstory. Makes the image that much greater. Sounds like a lovely, charming story.
replyVery enjoyable. Also I appreciate the comment from Sheryl. Saves me the research time :-)
replyYeah, great comments. Specially the first one. It's common that everybody checks the picture on wiki to give others such interesting info.
replyIn Sweden he is called "Drutten" and had a TV-show together with his crocodile friend "Gena" =)

I love how characters are shared amongst cultures. A charming story is a great bond.
replyThank you Dima for the puzzle, and we appreciated Sheryl's comment. That's why this is such a fun site.
replyAw, he's cute. :) It's nice to learn about other cultures this way. And thanks Minky for mentioning Drutten! I wonder now if Chebrushka was an inspiration for the design of the Pokemon Aipom; not hand-tail, obviously, but the big ears and round body.
replyReally adorable and I loved the information by Sheryl!
replyThis is the second puzzle I've seen on here of this character and I was so excited when I realized what this one was!
replyVery interesting puzzle. Thank you Sheryl for the insight. For once I don't mind the spoiler comment, very useful and interesting. And also a thanks to Minky for your comment.
