Your second puzzle! Very good! You're on a roll, Bob. I enjoyed this one also.
replyI'm getting stuck pretty early on this one. Is this a puzzle that can be solves purely through logic?
replyOkay, I got it. That was pretty tough for me. Good puzzle!
replyWonderful image, but I also had a very tough time getting more than maybe 6 moves in. I then had to cheat with the "mark wrong squares" feature when I tried to guess some moves. :( Would love someone to provide tips on what to do with all of the long rows but few numbers of filled squares. Need to improve my puzzlin'!
replyFellHarbor, in such cases I start with the frame. Often this gives no result. Then I look for high numbers or many numbers. Adding them together (remember the spaces) and substracting them from the length of the line tells me, if there are hits (and where). It takes some counting. Example: 2+4+1+1+3=15 with spaces. The line is 17 squares. Then I know that 4 and three must have safe hits. Later on I focus on the frame again, are there any spots without possible hits equal cross? And are there hits on the other side of what already has been marked? By doing this, you should be able to get many of them. Good luck.
replyIt can be solved with logic. Here are the first 9 moves I made in solving the puzzle. See if you can figure out why these moves can be made.
1. Column 9 – fill in 8-15
2. Row 10 - fill in 6-8
3. Row 7 – fill in 7-8
4. Column 7 – fill in 11-12
5. Column 8 – fill in 11-13
6. Rows 11 and 12 – block 1-5 and 11-14
7. Row 13 – block 1-5 and 12-14
8. Rows 14 and 15 – block 1-4 and 14
9. Column 11 – fill in 1-10
reply1. Column 9 – fill in 8-15
2. Row 10 - fill in 6-8
3. Row 7 – fill in 7-8
4. Column 7 – fill in 11-12
5. Column 8 – fill in 11-13
6. Rows 11 and 12 – block 1-5 and 11-14
7. Row 13 – block 1-5 and 12-14
8. Rows 14 and 15 – block 1-4 and 14
9. Column 11 – fill in 1-10
Thanks for the pointers, Klaus & Bob! What you've both described is exactly how I go about solving - look for the largest number of squares in a row (if it's greater than 1/2 the number of squares, you know there's a hit), then I X out where I know squares can't be filled in, etc.
Thanks for the pointer on move #4, though, Bob - that's something I must have missed! At first I didn't understand how the move could be 100% logical, but I worked it out to see that yes - at the very least, those 2 would be filled in due to the 1/10 combo and knowing where a possible start for the 10 could be. I'll be sure to use that "advanced" move in future. :)
I went back and retried the puzzle and was successful - no mistakes! Once I got past the top portion, the rest fell into place. Appreciate the tips!! :D

Thank you for going into the nanogram design business, Bob--especially black and white. I appreciate the ones that are small enough for me (20-23 high, 25-35 wide, more or less--I have vision limitations)). I love the motion in this one. Forward momentum!
replyAwesome image! It's great to read suggestions how to solve the puzzle. I now know that I'm doing it the right way.
