Japanese crossword «Papuan»

I agree, this is an uncomfortable subject depending on whether a Papuan created it or not.
replyOn the one hand, there's nothing inherently wrong in making images of other races and cultures. That said, maybe black and white was a poor choice. Plus I don't know what makes this specifically a Papuan .. and THAT'S where it gets uncomfortable, because it seems it's just the dark color. :/ Might need a different title, like "Man" or "Child."
replyIn a US context, this picture closely resembles the old racist, stereotypical depictions of black people. Such caricatures are considered inappropriate now. Americans (USA) of good taste aren't comfortable with these images. Many consider them very offensive. I understand it may be different in other countries, but for the sake of cultural competency, I suggest changing or removing this puzzle. For more information, please look up "darkies", "Sambo", "mammy", or "coonery".
replyThank you, Kati, I didn't think of all those nice words before you mentioned them. BTW: It's a Bavarian woman, wearing an indigenous peculiar Bavarian neckband.
replyIn last years the people have become so sensitive that could be considered an exageration. For just a picture someone claims the site became inappropiate? Really? Whom do you believe is the first offender for a piture like this? The answer is... YOU!! if you believe that a mere picture is offensive is because your conviction dictates that misconception.
If for example a transgender wanna go to the bath in a stadium of baseball but can't find one according to its mental conception of its own gender, then this sensitive people claims for INJUSTICE!! And the stadium is to blame!! Please be serius!! Nobody can complain about the tastes of preferences of everyone!!
This picture is JUST a picture... This picture can't say anything and less any that could be offensive far from your own interpretation. Then the load of offensive contend of the picture is on your own dirty mind...
Do you figure out already!?

cristiel ruiz - Except the picture IS saying something - the TITLE. Not one person has complained about the “mere picture.” A caricature of a dark-skinned person labeled Papuan - when NOTHING else about the image is specific to indigenous people of New Guinea - is offensive. There is NO "interpretation" going on.
Oh and FYI - transgender people are NOT "confused.” State legislators are when they legally force a trans-man to use a women's bathroom & a trans-woman to use the men's bathroom. So a cis-passing trans-man can be arrested using the men’s, and also has a good chance of being arrested if walks into the women's. The problem was NEVER on transgender people, just like it was never about protecting women/girls from molestation in public toilets, by men “claiming” they’re transgender - which NEVER happens. The issue is 100% BIGOTRY and willful ignorance.
Pretending to be deliberately obtuse about why something is offensive doesn't make you rational or right. It makes you a privilege-ignoring prick.

These articles better explain cristiel_ruiz's frustration with the transgender movement.

Femme_Appeal, Why is it not possible to disagree without being disagreable? There is no need for name calling here. cristiel_ruiz was trying to make a point and his/her opinion should be respected. Resorting to 'name calling' make you appear to be a bully without an intelligent argument.
replyThanks for this puzzle. I didn't know what it meant, so I googled it, and learned about a different culture. I enjoy learning about other people and places around the world.

It also makes every word of your argument a strawman.

Sure is hard to avoid SJWs. When it should be so easy since we are only looking at a damned picture.
replytransgender people are NOT "confused.
Correct! They are mentally ill and we need to stop enabling them. If you were born male that is all you will ever be despite what your delusions tell you.
Feminazi-Appeal, you're not doing anyone any favours by enabling their delusions.

replyThis picture is way too similar to historical racist caricatures.
replyDont shout at me...is it racist to be something other than your own typecast!? Seems to me that if we put a coolie up that would be racist, or a red indian, that would be racist, but a white person is not.
daft. No one is being nasty the world just happens to be made up of different types...thank goodness!
